COMBAT / PENETRATION
Penetration & Tenacity System Guide
Complete guide to penetration, tenacity, body-part targeting, and survival tactics in the Mesozoic Dawn combat system.
🦖 Mesozoic Dawn: Penetration & Tenacity System
To enhance combat realism and strategic depth, we have completely overhauled the armor and penetration mechanics. Now, low-level dinosaurs are no longer ineffective; with proper tactics, even small ones can challenge giant beasts!
💡 Core Attributes Explained
1. Penetration Level (Pen) — The Spear's Sharpness
Represents the attacker's armor-piercing ability.
- Level 0-1 (Light/None): Hatchlings, Pterosaurs, Small Carnivores.
- Level 2-3 (Medium): Medium/Large Carnivores.
- Level 4-6 (Heavy/Extreme): Apex Predators, Boss Creatures.
2. Tenacity Level (Ten) — The Shield's Strength
Represents the defender's armor protection.
- Level 0-1 (Light/None): Hatchlings, Pterosaurs, Small Herbivores.
- Level 2-3 (Medium): Medium/Large Herbivores.
- Level 4-6 (Heavy/Extreme): Adult Ankylosaurus, Boss Creatures.
⚔️ Two Combat States
State A: Full Penetration (Pen ≥ Ten)
Triggered when your "Spear" is stronger than the enemy's "Shield".
- Effect: DEALS 100% full damage and can directly apply negative status effects like Bleed and Stun.
- Example: Allosaurus (Pen: 3) attacking Hatchling Triceratops (Ten: 2) = Overwhelming strike, direct breakthrough.
State B: Armor Wear (Pen < Ten)
Triggered when your "Spear" cannot temporarily pierce the enemy's "Shield".
- Armor Abrasion: Attacks prioritize draining the enemy's Defense Value (Blue Bar).
- Pass-through Damage: A small amount of damage still penetrates the armor and directly reduces the enemy's Health (Red Bar).
- Restriction: Before breaking the defense, status effects cannot be triggered (except for buffs/skills targeting defense).
🎯 Body Part Strategy: Where to Strike?
Note: Choosing the right body part can yield benefits far exceeding a higher penetration level!
- Head (Implemented) ⭐⭐⭐⭐: High damage priority. Damage multiplier (120%), large hitbox area, suitable for advanced players.
- Torso (Implemented) ⭐⭐⭐: Reliable output. Largest area, easiest to hit, suitable for beginners.
📊 Combat Data Comparison (Velociraptor vs Utahraptor)
Even a Velociraptor with Penetration Level 0, facing a Utahraptor with Tenacity Level 2, sees vastly different results based on the target area:
- Attacking [Head]: Breaks defense fastest, total kill time is 35% shorter than attacking the torso!
- Attacking [Torso]: Standard performance, suitable for maintaining output in chaotic fights.
🛡️ Survival Guide
- Defense Value is your "Second Life": Once Defense is depleted, you enter a 0 Tenacity state regardless of your original stats. Any attack becomes "Full Penetration," and you will face extreme health loss and crowd control effects.
- Charged Attacks are Key:
- Full Charge: Temporarily grants +2 Penetration Level (May allow you to pierce armor directly!).
- Half Charge: Temporarily grants +1 Penetration Level.
- No Charge: Penalty to Penetration Level (-1), suitable for quick finishing blows rather than trading hits.
- Guaranteed Damage: Don't worry about doing zero damage to strong enemies. We have a minimum damage mechanic: any attack deals at least 1 Defense Damage and 1 Health Damage. Swarm tactics remain a threat even to giants!
- Growth Scaling: Your Penetration and Tenacity levels start low at birth and increase as you grow until adulthood. In the Elder stage, these levels will decrease.
