BREEDING / NESTING
Breeding and Nesting System Full Guide
Complete guide to breeding, nesting, incubation, and AI offspring commands in Mesozoic Dawn, including evolution chances and major breeding risks.
In "Mesozoic Dawn", breeding is not only the continuation of life but also the only way for species to break through their limits and step towards becoming the overlord of the Mesozoic Era. This guide will take you from laying an egg to evolving into the strongest species.
I. Core Breeding & Egg System (Starting Point of Species Evolution)
1.1 Breeding Paths
- Parthenogenesis (Asexual Reproduction): All players are female by default. Adults can lay eggs independently, suitable for solitary survivors, but offspring cannot obtain additional attribute bonuses through gene stacking.
- Sexual Reproduction (Mate System):
- Invitation Mechanism: Find a player of the opposite sex who is not a close relative and send an invitation.
- Cooperative Spawning: Initiated by the male, both parties consume 5% breeding rate. Each person receives an egg that inherits the advantages of both parents, which is the foundation for cultivating the strongest species.
- Cooldown Limit: There is a 600-second cooldown period after dissolving a partnership, during which you cannot form a new partnership.
1.2 Genetic Inheritance & Evolution Mechanism
- Attribute Fluctuation: The base attributes of the offspring fluctuate randomly by ±5% based on the average of the parents.
- Male Bonus: Male offspring are born with a 20% attack and defense bonus, and have a 50% chance of obtaining special metabolic or consumption genes.
- Size Fluctuation: Offspring size is controlled by nutritional richness; higher nutrition may lead to larger offspring, and vice versa (larger offspring have a wider adaptation range for temperature and humidity, and vice versa).
Evolutionary Breakthrough
- Nutrition Key: When the nutrition rate is ≥ 90%, the success rate of evolution during incubation is significantly increased.
- Evolution Factor: If evolution fails, the system accumulates "Evolution Factors," providing a success rate bonus for the next evolution until you successfully evolve into a higher-tier species.
II. Nesting & Incubation System (Safe Haven for Growth)
2.1 Nest Building
- Location Limits: Nests must be built on flat ground; building on slopes or in water is strictly prohibited. Marine creatures do not need to build nests (viviparous).
- Building Materials: Collect 3 rocks and 2 logs and bite them back to the nest frame.
- Placing in Nest: Hold the egg in your mouth and approach within 1 meter of the nest; dropping the egg will automatically place it into the nest (cannot be removed once placed).
2.2 🌡️ Influence of Environmental Temperature on Incubation
Environmental temperature determines not only gender but also directly affects incubation efficiency:
Incubation Speed
- Optimal Temperature: When in the ideal temperature range for the species, incubation progress is normal.
- Accelerated Incubation: Environmental factors (such as being near hot springs or specific climates) or parental brooding (sleeping state) can significantly improve environmental temperature stability, doubling incubation speed at most (2x).
- Delayed Incubation: Extreme low temperatures or severe weather will cause the egg to enter a "stunted development" state, significantly prolonging incubation time.
Gender Tendency
- High Temperature (30-40°C): 70% probability of hatching a female.
- Low Temperature (1-20°C): 70% probability of hatching a male.
III. 🤖 AI Offspring Hosting & Follower Commands
On servers with the AI offspring function enabled, when an egg develops to 100%, if you choose to hatch it as your own AI-hosted offspring (follower), you become the leader and can issue the following core commands:
| Command | Behavior Description |
|---|---|
| Standby | The offspring stays in place without moving or performing unnecessary actions, suitable for ambushing or resting. |
| Attack | The offspring actively scans the surroundings and attacks any threatening creature that enters its sensory range. |
| Defend | Passive counterattack mode; only fights back when the offspring itself is attacked. |
| Protect | The offspring constantly watches the owner and only attacks creatures that dare to harm the owner. |
| Patrol | The offspring stays alert within a certain range centered on the command point, actively driving away or attacking intruders. |
| Flee | Evasion priority mode. Upon sensing any threat, the offspring immediately flees and looks for a safe zone. |
IV. Breeding Taboos & Risk Warnings
- Postpartum Weakness: Laying eggs consumes a large amount of nutrition (giant creatures deduct up to 30%), so please ensure you lay eggs in a safe place with plenty of food.
- Status Interruption: Breeding cannot be initiated when in a state of rage, tension, high stress, or if underage.
- Nest Safety: Although nests do not self-destruct, they can be destroyed by other players. Once a nest is destroyed, the eggs inside will disappear with it.
- Incubation Relay: If not invited to hatch or evolve within 30 minutes after egg development is complete, it will rot and disappear (depending on server settings).
- Egg Limit: Each character can own up to 6 eggs at a time; please reserve slots before planning reincarnation or invitations.
- Restricted Areas: Do not attempt to build nests on slopes; the system will block it due to uneven terrain.
- Asexual Disadvantage: Although the threshold for asexual reproduction is low, it cannot break through attribute caps by stacking parental gene levels like sexual reproduction.
